Premier Review - Opening Weekend

With the opening round of fixtures complete, it is Manchester City who lead the way at the top of the meaningless League table, following a comprehensive 3-0 away win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns. Goals from Silva (9th min), Toure (24th min) and Kompany (59th min) posted their intent to reclaim their title. West Bromwich Albionn 20th, Manchester City 1st.

Leicester City stunned Sunderland at the King Power Stadium with a comfortable 4-2 win. Goals from Vardy (11th min), Mahrez (18th & 25th mins) gave the Foxes a 3-goal lead early on. Defoe pulled one back on the hour, with Albrighton restoring the 3-goal cushion 6 minutes later. Fletcher nabbed one back to reduce the deficit, but it was never going to be enough to inspire a comeback to salvage a point. Leicester City 2nd, Sunderland 17th.

Any hopes newly promoted Norwich City had of starting life back in the top flight wer dented by Crystal Palace who swept to a 3-1 at Carrow Road. Zaha (39th min) and Delaney (49th min) bagged a couple either side of half time. Redmond pulled one back in the 69th minute only to see Cabaye seal victory in the 94th minute. Norwich City 18th, Crystal Palace 3rd.

West Ham United pulled off a remarkable 2-0 away win to stun Arsenal at the Emirates. Goals from Kouyate (43rd min) and Zarate (57th min) proved enough to take the points back to the east end. Arsenal 19th, West Ham United 4th.

Aston Villa proved to be party-poopers on the south coast as they dented the hopes AFC Bournemouth in their first ever Premiership match. Gestede proved to be the difference in the 72nd minute to seal an open day win. AFC Bournemouth 14th, Aston Villa 6th.

Liverpool managed to erase memories of a 6-1 final day drubbing at the Britannia Stadium from last season with a 1-0 away win against Stoke City this season. A fine strike from Coutinho provd to be the difference in the 86th minute. Stoke City 15th, Liverpool 7th.

Manchester United got their campaign off to a winning start, claiming all 3-points against Spurs at Old Trafford. Walker had the honours of scoring the first goal of the new Premiership season by putting past his own keeper in the 22nd minute - the first time that has ever happened in Premier League history. Manchester United 8th, Spurs 16th.

The remaining three games all ended in 2-2 draws. Chelsea were held by Swansea City at Stamford Bridge. Oscar gave the Blues the lead in the 23rd minute, with Ayew levelling 6 minutes later. Fernandez put past his own keeper to give the home side the lead a minute later before his a Gomis penalty gave the Swans a deserved point. Chelsea 8th, Swansea City 12th.

Everton were made to work for their point against newy promoted Watford at Goodison. Layun gave the Hornets the lead in the 13th minute, with Barkley levelling ijn the 76th minute. Ighalo gave the visitors the lead again in the 83rd minute only to see Kone level with 4 minutes left on the clock. Everton 9th, Watford 13th.

Newcastle United and Southampton were the third game to finish 2-2. Pelle gave the Saints the lead in the 24th minute, with Cisse levelling just before the break. Wijnaldum gave the home side the lead in the 48th minute onky to see Long level 11 minutes before the end. Newcastle United 10th, Southampton 11th.
