Relief To Get My First Goal At Home - Thomas

Last updated : 09 November 2011 By Bournemouth Co-Ordinator

After some great goals away from home, and mis-firing in front of the home support, it was great to see Wes Thomas get off the mark in front of the North Stand during the 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United at the weekend.

Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo on the goal, and the win, Thomas is quoted as saying: "It was a relief to get my first goal at home. But the win was more important. I have been scoring goals away from home and getting lots of chances so think it was just a matter of time before I scored one here. It was a tough game but I thought we dominated. We have taken confidence from our away performances and brought it to a home game so, hopefully, it will continue. I just want to score as many goals as I can. I scored 18 for Cheltenham last season and would like to do better than that. This is the first time I have played in League One and seven goals from 11 games is a pretty decent record. I thought I would do okay but am a bit surprised I have scored as many as I have, especially as I have been playing up front on my own. I am not a target man and have always previously played alongside someone else. It has been different to play the role on my own. I have to come to feet and hold it up and also get in behind defenders. But all my goals have come from playing there so I am enjoying it and, hopefully, it will continue".
