Sky go Nationwide

The four year deal is worth £95 million to the Nationwide League as Sky beat the BBC to the broadcast rights to League Foootball. This includes League matches, Worthington Cup matches as well as games in the LDV Trophy.

The deal means that Nationwide League football returns to Sky Sports after a 12-month break following a disasterous relationship with ITV Digital which collapsed earlier this year, leaving a £178 million hole in the League Clubs finances.

The new TV deal would mean that AFC Bournemouth could earn £50k this season, making up almost 50% of what they would have been entitled to under the ITV Digital deal if the commercial broadcaster had kept their promise.

Nationwide League matches will be broadcast on either a Friday evening, a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime. It is now known who has the highlights package.

After a period of high uncertainty, the Nationwide League Clubs can begin to plan with greater certainty with some stability returning to the game.

If the League action against Carlton and Granada is successful, then the League will be laughing with the extra cash coming in on top of the negotiated deal with Sky Sports.
