Sly On Hayter Move

Steve Sly, speaking to the Bournemouth Evening Echo, is quoted as saying: "When we set out our budget for 2007/08, we didn't include any transfer income and therefore we will be looking to reinvest that money to help Kevin strengthen the squad. A player sale was not part of the plans and the transfer fee will not be poured into the black hole' of debt. We certainly haven't sold James with the purpose of getting us through to August 11. We will be playing the first day of next season regardless of whether we'd sold him or not ....... As far as I'm aware, James had a clause in his contract where he had to be informed if an offer came in of a certain amount. Out of courtesy, we would have informed him anyway. He was a valued member of our squad and we're definitely sorry to see him go, but if he feels that going to Doncaster is going to be a step in the right direction for his career, that's his prerogative. There were discussions over an improved contract, but his agent said it would be futile and that James wanted a fresh challenge. We're sorry to be losing a player of his calibre, but we'd like to thank him for his service and wish him well for the future".
