The Race To Stay Up - The Final Part!

Last updated : 01 May 2008 By Bournemouth Co-Ordinator
This weekend's final round of matches is simple on the surface, but with a slight twist in so much as issues at the top and bottom of League One will be influenced with the outcome of the Leeds United tribunal which could see some, none, or all of their 15 points being returned!

Crewe Alexandra v Oldham Athletic
Crewe have the simple matter of avoiding defeat against mid-table Oldham Athletic at Gresty Road. Neither side has sparkled in recent weeks. Crewe have only one twice in their last 6 home matches, while Oldham have only won once on the road in the same period. Defeat for the home side will have them nervously looking north for the results from Whaddon Road and Brunton Park as Crewe could still face the drop. PREDICTION: HOME WIN and SAFETY for Crewe.

Cheltenham Town v Doncaster Rovers
As with all recent matches for the Robins, this is a MUST win for the home side at Whaddon Road against Sean O'Driscoll's Donny Rovers side, although a draw would be sufficient if AFC Bournemouth and Gillingham fail to beat their respective opponenets. The latter required a 5-goal margin of victory to stay up in Cheltenham's place. Donny need to win to secure automatic promotion - depending on the outcome of the League tribunal regarding Leeds United. PREDICTION: AWAY WIN and RELEGATION for Cheltenham.

Carlisle United v AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth go in to this match on the back of 6 straight wins, and 7 wins in 8 games, where as Carlisle United have not won in their last 4 outings. A tough call on the result as it is a match which both sides simply have to win to either stand a chance of going up, or remaining in League One. On current form ......... PREDICTION: AWAY WIN and survival for AFC Bournemouth - but then I am biased!

Leeds United v Gillingham
What a task for Gillingham to remain in League One! The home fans could be in buoyant mood if Leeds are given all 15 points back, which would mean that Leeds United would be automatically promoted and in with a shout of winning the League One title. If Gillingham are to remain in this division, the simple scenario would be for Cheltenham to loose at home, AFC Bournemouth not win and Gillingham to claim their 3rd win on the road! PREDICTION: HOME WIN and relegation for Gillingham.
