Time To Shut Out The Opposition

Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo, manager Jimmy Quinn is quoted as saying: "We want people to shut the ball down and get in the opposition's faces. It doesn't matter how good you are, if people are shutting you down and harassing you, they are going to put you off and you will make mistakes. Unfortunately, we were standing 20 yards off people against Lincoln and that mustn't happen again. Everything has got to be about playing on the front foot and stopping the opposition playing. The opposition will only be as good as you let them and we allowed Lincoln to dictate the play for a 20-minute period which coincided with them scoring. We've got to take stock of the Lincoln game because we didn't start well and let them get a goal start on us. The game-plan will be more geared to us pushing forward and taking the attack to Chesterfield. They say the best form of defence is attack so I want us to go all-out on the attack. If you're going to lose a game, you lose having a go rather than sitting on your heels like we did in the first half against Lincoln. We're trying to be a bit more consistent and it's about focusing and doing a job. I was very disappointed with the first half against Lincoln because the game-plan was always to try to stop the opposition playing but we stood off their players for the goal and let them do exactly what they wanted ..... We're not getting enough shots away or getting enough bodies in the box at the moment so we'll do a bit of work on that and make sure people are tuned in to it".
