Following the Prutton tackle on Friday during the preseason friendly against Southampton, it has been confirmed that Purches will miss the start of the new campaign. A scan revealed that he sustained a tear to the medial ligaments in his right knee.
O'Driscoll is quoted as saying in the Bournemouth Evening Echo that: "Stephen's got a second-grade tear of his medial ligaments so he's going to be out for a few weeks".
Meanwhile Jason Tindall has signed a 4 month contract in a bid to prove his fitness, following a lengthy period out due to knee problems which led to a self financed trip to the USA for treatment.
Also speaking to the Bournemouth Evening Echo, Tindall is quoted as saying: "Looking back on my career, I guess you would say this is the most important part of it. Every day is just as important as the last but I'm confident that the knee will be fine come mid November, and I can finally get on with my career. I was quite happy with the four-month contract. I just wanted enough time to give myself a chance to get back playing again. The knee is feeling good at the moment - in fact, it is the best it has felt for a long time, I've been working very hard in the gym and am now starting to see the benefit".
