At the centre of the controversy, Cherries striker Brett Pitman was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "I thought it was a penalty and I’m pretty sure the video will prove it. I was pushed in the back and wasn’t surprised when he gave it. If I hadn’t felt any contact, I would have stayed on my feet and tried to score. There was a long delay before I took it and their centre-half was giving me a bit of banter, telling me I was going to miss it. Myself and Lee Bradbury gave him some back and that helped take my mind off the wait. I was always confident I would score".
Tempers were not helped during the match after Ryan Garry was forced to leave the pitch with what proved to be a broken nose after a terrible (unpunished) challenge from Chris Zebroski. Garry had to be strong armed off the pitch by the Cherries physio while aiming abuse at Zebroski.
It is also claimed, although unsubstantiated at the moment, that there was an after match incident in the tunnel after the match.
