Two Review - March 6th

By Bournemouth Co-Ordinator
Saturday, 6th March 2010
The race for promotion, and to avoid relegation hots up in League Two as we take a look back at the weekend action.

Rochdale were surprisingly held by lowly Lincoln City at Spotland in a 1-1 draw. Herd gave the Imps the lead in the 27th minute, only to see Dagnall level with 20 minutes to spare. Rochdale 1st, Lincoln City 21st.

AFC Bournemouth closed the gap at the top of League Two back down to 6-points as they edged Morecambe in a 1-0 win at Dean Court. Robinson scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute. AFC Bournemouth 2nd, Morecambe 12th.

Chesterfield hoisted themselves up in to the automatic promotion places with a 1-0 win over struggling Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road. A Conlon penalty in the 41st minute was enough for the Spirites, leaving the Robins looking nervously over their shoulder. Cheltenham Town 22nd, Chesterfield 3rd.

Bury slipped out of the automatic promotion places following a 0-0 draw against Dagenham & Redbridge at Gigg Lane. Bury 4th, Dagenham & Redbridge 10th.

Notts County edge closer and closer the automatic promotion places. Their latest success effectively ended the play-off aspirations of Accrington Stanley at Livingstone Road. Davies got County off the mark with a 29th minute strike, with goals from Hughes (48th min) and Rodgers (55th min) sealing the points. The win leaves County 3 points off automatic promotion with 3 or 4 games in hand over their rivals. The first of those games in hand comes against Chesterfield on Tuesday evening. Accrington Stanley 14th, Notts County 5th.

Rotherham United slipped to defeat against Bradford City at The Don Valley Stadium. Flynn gave City the lead in the 60th minute, with Le Fondre seemingly securing a point with an equaliser in the 92nd minute. City had other ideas as Hanson scored a 95th minute winner. Rotherham United 6th, Bradford City 16th.

It had to happen sooner or later ..... Grimsby Town secured their first win in TWENTY-FIVE attempts!! Their victims at Blundell Park were play-off chasing Shrewsbury Town. A brace from Sinclair (first half stoppage time penalty and in the 57th minute), plus a strike from Akpa Akpro (64th min), secured an unlikely win to dent the Shrews credentials of play-off contenders. The win (their 2nd at home this season), lifts Grimsby to within 4 points of safety. Grimsby Town 23rd, Shrewsbury Town 7th.

Northampton Town gave themselves a huge boost of making the play-offs with a fine 3-1 win against Port Vale at Vale Park. Akinfenwa gave the Cobblers a great start with a goal in the 3rd minute, only yo see it cancelled out 2 minutes later through Loft. Osman restored the visitors advantage on the stroke of half time, with McKay adding to the scoreline in first half stoppage time. Port Vale 13th, Northampton Town 8th.

Aldershot Town's play-off hopes were dented at the hands of inconsistent Burton Albion at The Recreation Ground. Parkes gave Albion the lead in the 9th minute, with Kabba extending the score line in the 26th minute. Aldershot Town 9th, Burton Albion 11th.

Crewe Alexandra and Barnet battled their way to a 2-2 draw at Gresty Road. Donaldson had given the home side the lead in the 13th minute, only to see the Londoners bounce back through O'Flynn and Lockwood in the 23rd and 29th minutes. Parity was restored when Donaldson completed his brace in the 82nd minute. Crewe Alexandra 15th, Barnet 17th.

Macclesfield won an emotional game against Hereford United at Edgar Street as they paid their respects to Keith Alexander who sadly passed away during the week. Sappleton (16th min) and Sinclair (62nd min) secured the Silkmen's 3rd away win of the season which gives them some breathing space at the foot of the table. Hereford United 18th, Macclesfield 20th.

The vultures must be gathering over The Arena as the corpse of Darlington prepares for the drop in to the Conference. Darlo'a latest home defeat - their 11th on home soil this season - came against Torquay United. Ellis gave the Gulls the lead in the 10th minute, with O'Kane extending that advantage in first half stoppage time. Main pulled one back for the home side before Carayol restored the 2-goal advantage in the 85th minute. The result lifts Torquay United 9 points above the drop zone, while Darlo, with a -44 goal difference, are effectively 17 points adrift with just 15 matches left. Darlington 24th, Torquay United 19th.
