Two Review - March 9th

By Bournemouth Co-Ordinator
Tuesday, 9th March 2010
Here's a round up of the mid-week action as those playing catch up play a game in hand.

Bury missed the chance to edge in to second place in League Two as they were held by lowly Darlington at Gigg Lane. The Conference bound side took the lead through Purcell with a 32nd minute penalty, only to see their hosts level from the penalty spot 10 minutes later through Lowe. Bury 3rd, Darlington 24th.

Notts County edged past local neighbours Chesterfield at Meadow Lane with a 1-0 win, which also took them to within touching distance of automatic promotion. Davies scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute. County also won the yellow card count 5-2. Notts County 4th, Chesterfield 5th.

Port Vale managed to edge out Bradford City 2-1 at Vale Park, coming from behind to claim 3-points. Threfall had given City the lead in the 12th minute, only to see Richards level in the 50th minute and Taylor score the winner in the 78th minute. The win lifts Vale to within 6-points of the play-off places. Port Vale 11th, Bradford City 16th.

Accrington Stanley failed to make one of their games in hand count if they harbour any hopes of making the play-offs as they could only draw 1-1 with Macclesfield at Livingstone Road. Kee gave Stanley the lead in the 65th minute, only to see Tipton level for the Silkmen from the penalty spot 13 minutes later. Accrington Stanley 14th, Macclesfield 20th.

Grimsby Town failed to capitalise on their first win since the Stone Age as normal service was resumed, this time against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road. Moore gave the Alex a 29th minute lead with Akpa Akpro levelling 3 minutes later, with Grant restoring the advantage 3 minutes again. Sinclair levelled for the Mariners 4 minutes before the break. Westwood restored the home sides advantage (again) 10 mintes after the restart with Donaldson wrapping up the points in the 91st minute to condemn Grimsby to their 16th defeat of the season. Crewe Alexandra 15th, Grimsby Town 23rd.
