Walsall Reaction

Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo, manager Sean O'Driscoll is quoted as saying: "I thought we were excellent, different class. It was a hot day and we've just had a long trip to Bradford and although there were some tired legs and tired minds, I thought we were excellent from the first minute. It was a shame really they had Bennett sent off because it almost made their game plan a little bit easier, sitting in and defending, but we created chances and, on another day, we would have scored. But you can't fault the quality of our play and the attitude and determination of the players. I didn't think the sending off changed the game. They came here to defend so that was our problem and we gave the same problem to Bradford on Saturday. I thought we coped with it really well. We got angles, gave them problems and I don't think you can do much more apart from score a goal".

The Walsall manager, Paul Merson, was pleased with the way in which his side held out for a point with 10-men for most of the game. He was quoted afterwards as saying: "This is the best result since I've been at the club ..... I'm so proud of my players, they gave 110% and that's all any manager can ask for. But I have no complaints about the sending-off, though I can't be too hard on Julian [Bennett]. He is a young lad and very enthusiastic, he even makes tackles like that in training".
