What The Hell Happened

On Tuesday evening, I'd have happily settled with the 3-0 win against Wrexham, it would have levelled out our goal difference, having lost by that margin against Brighton and it would have been a good confidence booster as well.

Little did we know that further drama and records were about to reveal themselves to the 5899 that had come to the re-arranged match!!

On steps new dad Jamie Hayter (dad to Harris) and 140 seconds and 4 touches later Jamie had netted one of the fastest hat-tricks in footballing history!! The sequence of events that led to the quickest hat-trick in the Football League started when he came on as a sub on 86 minutes, netted his first two within seconds and then the third in the 88th minute to extend the lead to a remarkable 6-0 thumping!! Our first 6-goal winning margin since 1979 when we whallopped Doncaster Rovers 7-1 in the old Fourth Division.

Hayter is no stranger to impressive goal hauls. Back in October 2000, Hayter equalled a Bournemouth record by netting 4 times in a 5-2 win over Bury at Gigg Lane - strangely this was also the last time when any Bournemouth player scored a hat-trick!!

The achievement also beats the previous Football League best, set back in 1952 by Jimmy Scarfe of Gillingham, who scored his trio in 2mins 30.
