The game started in a very positive manner for the Cherries as they pressed from the start, winning a corner in the opening few minutes.

Peterborough too tried to press, but when they tried to come forward, they were certainly lacking in the final third of the pitch.

The vocal home support were up out of their seats in the 10th minute when a lovely move started off with Symes finding Feeney whose cross found Pugh free at the back post to head the Cherries in front.

The Cherries were rampant at this stage as Pugh, again, found himself in a good position to shoot, but was crowded out at the top of the Posh area.

In another move forward, a long ball forward from Purches was knocked down to Feeney who in turn fed the ball through to Robinson who confidently slid the ball past the keeper and in by the far post for the Cherries second goal of the afternoon in the 20th minute.

The Cherries were all over their visitors. Most notable is the growing left-wing partnership betweem Wiggins and Pugh who are developing a lovely understanding. Both caused Posh all sorts of problems down the left hand side and will cause all sorts of problems throughout League One this season.

Posh tried to push forward and won a few corners, but the Cherries defence weren't having any of it.

Pugh was causing all sorts of problems down the left with his trickery for the Posh right hand side. They tried to stop him, but time and time again, his neat footwork had them dancing around in circles and chasing his shadow.

HT: 2-0

The second half started in the same vein as the first - with the Cherries well and truely on top, taking the game to Peterborough who were defending the North Stand. Just 4 minutes in to the second period it was time for the Pitman show to get up and running for the 2010/2011 season with his first goal of the new season.

A lovely run from Pugh (who else!), who got to the bye-line, cut inside beating his man, cut the ball back, which was dummied by Symes for Pitman to fire home in the 49th minute with the Peterborough defence left scratching their heads as to what was going on.

Even when Peterborough did get close to scoring, the ball was hacked off the line through a combination of Pearce and Cooper.

With the Posh defence at 6s and 7s, Pitman struck again 7 minutes later when a defender gave away a sloppy back pass allowing Pitman to round the keeper to slide the ball in to an open net.

A scramble in the Cherries penalty area allowed Langmead to tap home in the 61st minute, but it was a temporary set back for the Cherries as Pitman claimed his hat-trick in the 65th minute when Feeney (again) fed the ball to Pitman on the edge of the area to fire low past the hapless Posh keeper.

More goals were on the cards and could easily have happened if it wasn't the fact that Pitman found the side netting instead of the back of the net! We all thought he'd claimed his 4th of the afternoon.

McQuoid should have netted as well, but his close range effort somehow managed to clear the cross bar as opposed to hitting the back of the net.

All in all a VERY satisfactory day at the office for the Cherries against a side who were in the Championship last season.

Jalal - needed the catching practise
Purches - more than capable at the back
Pearce - talismanic as ever
Cooper - a cool, calm display as ever
Wiggins - superb down the left
Feeney - still needs to add a few more tricks to his locker, but caused all sorts of problems down the right
Robinson - scored a fine goal, and did superbly well in midfield
Bartley - harried, chased as ever
Pugh - outstanding down the left
Symes - a great foil for Pitman up front
Pitman - what can you say about him? A superbly taken hat trick and could have had far more and will over the course of the season

Man Of The MatchMy man of the match was going to be an easy choice until Brett Pitman netted his hat trick. So it's goit to be a joint award to Brett Pitman and Marc Pugh.
