In a lively start, it was not possible to determine the difference in divisions between the teams, but it was Southend who took the lead just after the half hour when Gower fired home in the 33rd minute.

AFCB bounced back immediately after the break when Steve Fletcher levelled matters in the 47th minute.

Southend were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute when Gower duely fired the ball at Hart's arms. Eastwood converted the penalty to restore Southend's lead.

AFCB gifted Southend their third goal when a defensive mix up allowed Eastwood to snatch the ball, round Moss to score in to an empty net!

A comeback was not to be as Southend were more than capable of soaking up the pressure Bournemouth tried to apply.
