Dec 23 Yeovil Town 1-1 AFC Bournemouth Att: 8178

Yeovil started very determinedly and an early poor clearance by Shaun Cooper seemed to spur them on for a few minutes. Early on James Hayter was elbowed in the face by Chris Cohen but this just spurred him on and after he had made a fine move around their defence a good chance was wasted by Steve Fletcher.

He then made amends by winning a corner which was headed narrowly wide by Marcus Browning. Another corner was wasted by James O'Connor with a skier but the Cherries were getting the upper hand now. Yeovil's only attempt was a poor free kick by Chris Cohen that missed by a mile after a foul by Callum Hart.

Callum Hart then hit a shot way over the top and then Andrew Surman put a header straight at Stephen Collis in the Yeovil goal. It was all Bournemouth now and two good crosses by Steve Foley were missed – the first by Steve Fletcher and the second by James Hayter and Andrew Surman.

Some dazzling passing moves then led to Andrew Surman being fouled in the box and in the 18th minute James Hayter gave us the lead with a well taken penalty. Bournemouth kept up the pressure for a while and Marcus Browning went very close with a fine effort.

Yeovil began to claw their way back and some wobbles were seen in the Bournemouth defence but the Glovers failed to take advantage. Play became a bit scrappy and James Hayter was caught offside at a vital moment. Liam Fontaine clashed with Steve Fletcher and was sufficiently injured to be replaced by Paul Terry. A Brian Stock free kick rebounded off the wall for Steve Foley who blasted it high and wide. Shaun Cooper wasted a good chance and Steve Fletcher handballed when in a good position.

Gareth Stewart was an onlooker for most of the time during this period and in injury time Paul Terry wasted Yeovil's only other chance in the first half.

HT: 0-1

Bournemouth started brightly and played some of their best football in the early part of the second half with Yeovil's only attack coming when following a free kick and a lot of scrambling about Chris Cohen finally shot wide. Stephen Collis had to come off his line to clear into touch just before James Hayter reached a through ball and at the other end Phil Jevons fired straight at Gareth Stewart.

Matt Harrold was beginning to take command in midfield and only some sterling defending by Neil Young in particular kept Yeovil at bay. A ridiculous decision by the referee to give Phil Jevons a free kick after he had blatantly dived led to the same player putting wide from the free kick but the referee then gave him a corner.

Some great passing from the clearance enabled Brian Stock to get in a shot but he fired over. Infuriatingly James O’Connor made two wayward passes when in a good position and then twice failed to beat the first man with further crosses.

A good move from Yeovil came to an end when Lee Johnson handled and then David Poole fired over when it would have been easier to score. Poole was replaced soon after by Arron Davies. A great header from Phil Jevons saw Gareth Stewart make a fine save. Minutes later Jevons ran through lost the ball and did another spectacular dive which the referee decided was the time to even up the penalties and Jevons gratefully accepted the challenge and beat Gareth Stewart all too easily in the 79th minute.

Now Yeovil had their tails up and some resilient defending was required especially by Neil Young and even Steve Fletcher on the odd occasion. One last chance fell to James Hayter but he was too slow to get to it and the game fizzled out as both teams settled for a draw.

Man Of The MatchNeil Young - simply superb
