The Cherries got off to a great start in this relegation 6-pointer as Sam Vokes slid the ball home from 6-yards following an assist from Kuffour after 10 minutes

Hollands hit the post 6 minutes later when he hit the post with a 20-yard shot.

Vale tried to come back in to the game, but were thwarted by Bournemouth who extended their lead in the 28th minute. Danny Hollands drilled home a left footed shot from the edge of the penalty area following a header from Vokes. Hollands, again, missed another chance a minute later to make it 3 before the half hour mark.

A familiar tale in the second half as Vale snatched a goal back when Pilkington drilled the ball home from 25-yards in the 49th minute. After this point, the game opened up as Vale tried to draw level and the Cherries restore their 2-goal lead. A combination of dogged defending, good goal keeping and poor finishing meant that the score remained the same until 6 minutes from time when Shaun Cooper smashed home a rasping shot from 18-yards to put the result beyond doubt.

The result leaves the Cherries just 3 points adrift of Crewe Alexandra, who are just above the drop zone, with a trip to Huddersfield Town to come on Tuesday, followed by a home match against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
