We started the brighter, but it was some time before an team had an opening, Fletchers weak effort some how found its way to Hayter, his fine low effort was turned around the post by Ward.

Shortly after we were ahead, walkers cross was headed down by Fletcher, it made its way to McGoldrick who slotted the ball home past the hapless ward, 1-0 13 mins.

Cooper then showed some trickery and found Walker in the box, but he was unable to finish when he should have scored. It must have been easily half hour into the game before Tranmere had there first effort, Ellison and Mullin linked well down there left, the ball was played back to Sherriff, who's effort went just over the bar.

McGoldrick came close soon after, when Anderton found Hayter in space his ball to McGoldrick was perfect, but his chip was just parried by Ward and the follow up save was brave. Anderton had a chance with a free kick just before the break but he fired it straight at the wall. h/t 1-0.

Second half got underway and on 57 mins it was 2-0, it one of two talking points in the half. McGoldrick won a free kick just outside the box, when he was to quick for the defender, Anderton again struck the ball straight at the wall, it struck an arm but what can you do if its kick straight at you, but the ball then fell to McGoldrick who's shot was saved brilliantly by Ward, the ball bounced around then cleared, but then the ref pointed to the spot, if it was hand ball then it was harsh and how long can you play the advantage rule?

After the game Mr Lewis said it was for a pull back on McGoldrick, well I did not see it, and Goodison was booked for it, but then if he pulled him back in the box it should be red I don't no it was just one of the strange decisions he gave, any way Hayter stepped up and scored. 2-0.

Walker nearly made it three soon after but his effort went just wide, Ellison fell as he tried to shot and missed the ball, he also injured himself at the same time. Then came the second talking point, McGoldrick showed some pace down the left, Goodison went over to cut him off, McGoldrick then slipped the ball past Goodison and ran straight into him Mr Lewis blew for the foul and showed him yellow then red, I am sorry but I cant see how he was supposed to move when stood still, off course this killed the game off for them.

Taylor did have a half chance but his header went well wide, and an Ellison free kick went lust over the bar. Luke Summerfield came on in last few minutes, when him and Walker linked well but his shot had no power and was easily saved by ward. Walker again had an effort but blazed the ball well wide. that's how it finished 2-0.

There were a number of good performances, Gowling and Young superb at the back, McGoldrick is looking better all the time, Anderton also great in midfield with Wilson. But its been against two very poor teams in last two games, so it will tell how good we are when we play someone a lot better.

Man Of The Match
Well this is a hard choose, Gowling again superb at the back, Anderton good in the middle Purches did well as Wilson and Young. But it goes to McGoldrick, he is a great young talent and will get better, what a shame he is only a loan player.
